FRONTLINE VALIDATION FOR WESTERN DEFENSE TECHNOLOGY
01Validate 02Fund 03Scale
We take Western defense technology to the only place it can be honestly tested — the Ukrainian front — and turn what happens there into allied procurement. Since the second day of the full-scale invasion.
HOW WE WORK
Your system goes into the hands of a Ukrainian frontline unit and gets tested under peer electronic warfare. If it does not survive, you learn exactly why.
When a unit asks for the product, we convert that demand into letters of request, letters of intent, and funded orders. Not before.
Battlefield validation becomes the case for allied procurement — US, German, and partner channels.
FROM THE FOUNDER
I’m writing this from Kyiv, where I live with my wife and our baby daughter.
That sentence surprises people. It shouldn’t. This city is my home, and the people in it are the closest friends I have ever had. Every one of those friendships was made after the missiles started.
I grew up in Belfast with soldiers on the streets, went to West Point, and led cavalry soldiers through two tours in Iraq. That taught me the only professional lesson I have ever needed: war is human, and everything built for war either serves the humans at the front — or it fails them.
In 2018 I moved to Kyiv to build a tech startup. In February 2022 I evacuated everyone who would listen. Then the war began, and everyone I knew left the country.
I came back.
Since 2022 I have represented more than fifteen defense companies inside Ukraine. I have watched famous products fail under jamming, watched engineers rebuild them in weeks, and watched commanders drive ninety minutes from the front — unannounced — to shake the hand of a founder who showed up.
There is a war on, and in war, every product — and every person — gets found out.

WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD
Everyone says don't go
Four reasons founders give for staying home, and what fifteen companies on the ground have actually found.
“There is no money in Ukraine.”
True and beside the point. You do not go to Ukraine to profit — you go to learn, and you charge as little as you can afford to. The money arrives later, through allied procurement, once your product is proven. Companies that go in trying to charge American prices get found out immediately.
“Ukraine is too corrupt.”
Fifteen companies represented, $58MM in contracts closed, and not once has anyone tried a shakedown. When a founder comes home saying Ukrainians are corrupt, it usually means they did not want his product.
“It is not the war we will fight.”
Everyone you might fight is learning there. Iran supplies and operates Shahed drones. North Korea trains inside Russia. China pulls data from every mission it can reach. Your competitors’ systems are being counter-engineered in real time.
“My investors say the risk is not worth it.”
Then you may have the wrong investors. The companies in our results section raised on the strength of Ukrainian letters of intent — one of them used a $2MM LOI to get into Y Combinator.
RESULTS
Outcomes, not activity
Clients are not named. We do not name companies operating in an active war.
US-government-funded letter of request, with a €100MM+ German follow-on in development.
Submitted letters of request for an acoustic sensor company, built on frontline demand.
Raised by an air-defense interceptor company on the back of frontline letters of intent.
ACCESS
Money buys technology. It doesn’t buy the network.
Nine years in Kyiv, a company founded on day two of the full-scale invasion, and relationships that took all of it to build. That is what a client is actually buying — the doors, and the standing to walk through them.
WHO WE SERVE
Proof your systems work under peer electronic warfare, and a path from battlefield demand to allied procurement.
Help meeting Western standards and reaching global markets — the same bridge, crossed in the other direction.
The lessons of this war, from the people fighting it. Briefings and advisory engagements.

Common questions
What does The Borderlands Group do?
We help Western defense and technology companies validate their products with Ukrainian frontline units under real combat conditions, then convert that proven demand into funded orders through allied procurement channels. We have closed $58MM in client sales and served more than 15 defense companies since 2022.
Why test defense technology in Ukraine?
Ukraine is the only place where products face peer electronic warfare, GPS denial and massed drones at scale, and where engineers get feedback from the soldiers using the product within weeks rather than programme years. What is proven at the front becomes credible with NATO and allied buyers.
How do I start working with The Borderlands Group?
Everyone starts with the talk, which is free. Paid work begins with the Ukraine Readiness Assessment: three working sessions covering your product, your team and your readiness, ending in a written report and a clear decision. Companies enter Deployment — the done-for-you work in Ukraine — only after that.
